After relocating from London to an 1885 Victorian semi in Dorchester, a family of five began a full renovation to create a characterful long-term home. The kitchen footprint was compact, arranged in an L-shape within the existing structure. This wasn’t about adding space — it was about using it well.
Design & Layout
Working with our designer Freddie, the focus was intelligent planning rather than square footage. The L-shape was designed to create a strong visual run along the main wall, balanced by practical storage along the return.
Instead of relying on extra space, the design maximises functionality through deep drawer storage, hidden internal drawers and dedicated tray and chopping board cabinetry. Nothing is wasted. Every cabinet earns its place.
Solid oak dovetail drawers and soft close runners elevate the everyday experience — the details you notice long after installation.
Colour & Finish
The cabinetry is a rich Tuscan red, colour-matched to Farrow & Ball Bamboozle using a Caparol paint system. Deep and confident, it feels entirely at home within the proportions of the Victorian property.
The bold tone brings warmth and character to the room while allowing the in-frame detailing to stand out beautifully.
